We're working hard with our partner thebreathingplanet.com to think of ways to lower our environmental impact. From installing high efficiency heating boilers and low energy lightbulbs around the building, increasing roof insulation and just turning off our kitchen equipment when it's not in use. A simple idea, but an effective fight against our energy waste. We've also introduced a system of electrical timers to automatically turn off our large appliances overnight where appropriate to lower our electrical consumptions and therefore our carbon emissions. We don't use patio heaters and correspondances are now carried out as much as possible by electronic email limiting our environmental effect as much as possible.

Now with thebreathingplanet.com and the CO-CAA we have engaged in the planting of trees to offset our carbon footprint from our woodburner and open fire. For every tonne of carbon produced through the burning of wood, we're planting 12 trees per year in sustainable woodlands and hedgerows. All trees are planted in areas where they can fulfil their natural lifespan and are nutured and cared for by professionals to ensure they continue to take in the carbon which we output through our business operation.

Each month we're running a competition to have a tree planted for you. Everytime you dine at the Merry Miller, please fill out the attatched entry form that will be with your receipt and the winner will have a sapling planted on their behalf. The winner will receive official certification for the tree and the opportunity to increase their contribution by planting more trees each month. Each tree planted will offset approximately 1 tonne of carbon during it's lifetime - a great way to start reducing your carbon footprint and impact on our earth.
